Kyrica Renee is an award-winning writer, director, and producer based in Charlotte, NC. Her documentary Touched: The Story of Nicholas Freeman won Best Documentary at the Las Vegas Black Film Festival, Montgomery International Film Festival and was an Official Selection at the Indianapolis Black Documentary Film Festival, and the Baltimore International Black Film Festival. Additionally earning Kyrica two nominations for Best Director of a Documentary. Who Is Boo: The Black Architect of the American Dream won Best Sports Documentary at the Virginia Beach Film Festival and screened at the NBA Summer League Film Festival. Her work, rooted deeply in faith and spirituality, examines redemption, identity, and the emotional crossroads that challenge our beliefs and ultimately transform our lives.

A mother of three young adults, Kyrica brings lived experience, emotional honesty, and generational perspective to every project she creates. She writes from a place of truth, drawing inspiration from real relationships and personal experiences because she believes emotional authenticity resonates more deeply than spectacle. Her work centers stories that test faith, confront the past, and ask audiences to consider who they choose to become when life shifts without warning.

An athlete at heart who enjoys both coaching and playing basketball, Kyrica naturally found herself immersed in the world of sports storytelling, beginning her filmmaking journey through documentary. What started as a passion for capturing the human stories behind competition evolved into a broader creative path, as new opportunities opened doors for audiences to witness the depth and range of her imagination across narrative film and documentary alike.

Through film and documentary, Kyrica's work reaches back toward the emotional familiarity of connection: the feel-good "normal" love stories, enduring friendships, heartfelt laughter, and the cherished simplicity of earlier days when girls' nights meant gathering around a meaningful movie and first dates unfolded through shared emotion and laughter in a dark theater. Her stories blend nostalgia with realism, balancing vulnerability, resilience, and hope.

As an independent filmmaker through her production company, IMKV Productions, Kyrica Renee creates character-driven stories grounded in emotional truth, faith, and human resilience. Her scripted work — including the prestige drama The White House and the ensemble comedy The Council — carries that same voice into narrative film and television, with an eye toward franchise and streaming potential. As she expands into professional screenwriting and directing, she is focused on developing impactful film and television projects that invite audiences not only to watch stories unfold, but to see themselves reflected within them.
